Last summer on my way home from visiting my parents in Minot I stopped at Fort Lincoln and picked up a copy of Following the Custer Trail of 1876 by L.J. Chorne. When I got back to Pierre it somehow ended up on the "I'll Read This Later" stack. I am finally getting into this book now. Montana Mayhem 2009 is approaching and one of the items on our to-do list is to make a side trip over to Fort Lincoln. Now in miles, that is a hell of a side trip. It will be fun though to basically follow the trail the 7th Cavalry took from Fort Lincoln to the Little Big Horn. I-94 in North Dakota follows the trail pretty well. Chorne's book documents the campsites and points out the landmarks along the way along with Exit numbers and photos. It should be an interesting trip.

Fort Lincoln also used to offer trail rides at a ridiculously low price -- something like $12.00 for a one hour ride following the trail out of the fort. The last time I was at the fort (June 2008) I didn't see the stables. I don't know whether or not they have discontinued this program.

New update to the website -- obituaries added for John Pahl from the Deadwood Daily Pioneer-Times and the Sturgis Weekly Record.

Take care.
